Roads And Railways Are More Important Than Marathi Films
This morning, we woke up to Maharashtra government's decision of making it compulsory for theatres to air a Marathi film at prime time.
 
SpotboyE.com spoke to a cross-section of people across the city on what they feel about this. And this time, we got really mixed opinions. Read on:



Bharat Mallik (56, Educationist): 
In my opinion, Marathi films should be promoted and there are some very good Marathi films like Time Pass, Shwas and Ajoba, but it's also a question of demand and supply. If there is a demand for Marathi films in the 6 pm slot, then there is a need for supply. It's easy to enforce a law in this regard, but a better sense of judgment should prevail. If you sell only 50 per cent of your seats, who will pay for the losses?



Haresh Kedar, 32, Manager at Puma):
There are good stories in Marathi films which deserve prime time slot. Nowadays, Hindi films do not have good content.


 
Anita Pathak (34, Housewife):
I am not affected. It doesn’t make a difference to me if they show a Marathi film at 6 pm in multiplexes. I dont consume that kind of content anyway. My husband who likes Marathi films watches them on TV. At best, hell purchase a VCD for Rs 60-70. Who will spend Rs 300 for a film which can be seen free?



Shatayu Sawant (30, Gym Trainer):
I applaud the decision made by the government. But we should treat them with the same eye with which we treat Hindi films. If a Hindi film can be pulled off when it doesn't work, flop Marathi films should also be withdrawn.



Sandeep Kamat (46, Businessman):
Why should I wait or make myself available for a movie in a cinema mall when I get to watch it in my comfort zone at home in two months after its release? But I wonder why the Maharashtra government is not focusing on bettering roads and railways?



Samir Bheda (36, Stockbroker): 
If the state is so concerned about Marathi films, it should own some theatres and show Marathi films 24 X 7. Any decision that isn't taken with the consent of majority is nothing but dadagiri.



Kimaya Patil (28, Manager -Media Relations):
I have seen many 'meaningful' Marathi Movies and honestly Marathi Cinema is overrated.



Priyanka Navalkar (45, Advocate):
Are there sufficient number of Marathi films available that we can show on daily basis in a multiplex? Will 200 people or even 100 people turn up for the same film for seven days?
